Introduction to Projects, Assessments, Exercises

This article introduces how Projects work on the Sova platform and how they are used to create assessment experiences for candidates. Throughout this article you will find links to more in-depth guides on each of the features mentioned.

Key things to know

•       A Project contains the full assessment experience for one or more candidates.

•       Projects can be structured into Phases, allowing you to stage your process and review results before candidates progress.

•       Assessments are scored automatically by the platform; Exercises require an assessor to review and score candidates' responses.

•       Digital Assessment Centres (DAC) are only available in Participant Journey project types.

•       Scoring & Automation lets you set pass/fail thresholds and move candidates to the next Phase automatically.

What is a Project?

A project contains the assessment experience for one or more candidates.

You can add Assessments and Exercises, as well as information for candidates (including videos).

You can see how Candidate Journey looks in the project.

What are Phases?

You can structure your Project into Phases. All Assessments and Exercises are assigned to a Phase, and candidates can only access the activities of the Phase they are currently in. Once they complete a Phase, you can review their results and decide whether to progress them to the next one.

Example: Your Project has a first Phase containing Assessments. After candidates complete it, you review their results and decide who to invite to the second Phase, which includes an Assessment Centre.

Candidates can also be moved to the next Phase automatically using the Scoring & Automation feature — see [What is Scoring and Automation?] below.

What are Assessments and Exercises?

Assessments and Exercises are both activities that allow you to evaluate candidates. As a rule of thumb, Assessments are scored automatically by the platform, whereas Exercises require an assessor to review candidates' responses and score them.

Examples of Assessments

  • Cognitive Assessments — such as Verbal, Numerical, Logical, and Situational Judgement Assessments.
  • Personality Questionnaires and Motivation Questionnaires.

Examples of Exercises

  • Video Interviews: Candidates record video answers to interview questions. Your team can then review and score the responses later.
  • Assessment Centres: See the section below.

What are Assessment Centres (DAC)?

Assessment Centres are also known as Digital Assessment Centres (DAC). They allow you to observe candidates in real-time as they complete a range of tasks designed to assess their suitability and role fit.

You can include several Exercise types within an Assessment Centre, such as two-way live interviews, role plays, group exercises, and case studies.

Assessment Centres can be run face to face or virtually, including via integration with your organisation's Microsoft Teams account.

You can schedule candidates and assessors directly through the Sova platform. Self-scheduling is also available, allowing candidates to choose a time slot that suits them.

You can read more about DAC scheduling and self-scheduling here.

What is Scoring and Automation?

The Scoring and Automation feature allows you to set up overall phase scores for candidates and configure automation rules.

Automation allows you to assign phase statuses to candidates — such as 'pass' or 'fail' — and automatically move passing candidates to the next phase of your assessment process.
